Develop your perceptual skills, and create abstract works from tableau’s in this new class! Over 4 weeks, you will work through a series of exercises that build your understanding of using formal elements to structure your observations, with an emphasis on space, colour and composition. Taking foundational aspects of visual language as the starting point, you will work with drawing, painting, collage and mixed media. Merryn will also introduce you to, and discuss, a wide range of contemporary artists who are using abstraction, and walk you through how she draws on her surroundings as the building blocks of her practice. This workshop is focused on expanding your visual vocabulary, gaining confidence in translating your ideas and observations into abstract artworks, and developing strategies for pushing your practice in new directions.
